POINTS are not ProPoints. Help!!

Monday 8th November. To most of us it was a average rainy Monday morning, but for people following the Weight Watchers plan it was the day of an exiting new programme (their words not mine).

At last Friday's weigh in. I was handed a piece of paper with a set of times for the introduction meeting. Monday at 8.30am in The Kings Arms, the pub next door to the church we weigh in at. Friday was Diwali, so I knew it was going to be a difficult week to loose weight. Diwali is celebrated like Christmas, eating and drinking.

After a weekend of eating everything that was handed to me I wasn't looking forward to anything weight related. I walked into the end of the last meeting and was directed towards to scales! I'm wearing jeans, this isn't going to be good. I honestly thought I would be told about the new plan and that would be it. Instead, I was weighed given a sheet with the number 29 on and told to wait for the next talk. At that point I went into a state of shock. I didn't hear anything all that was going through my head was 7lbs in 36 hours! I'm a glutton.

OK, this is going to be ok. I've just got to concentrate through the talk and it'll be fine! Lots of changes and I still really don't get it! The main thing is POINTS are now ProPoints and all the values are different. Instead of the 18 I was on I'm now allowed 29 ProPoints. There is an added bonus of using 49 ProPoints for a blow out or spending them out throughout the week. AND fruit now is 0 ProPoints! Is it just me or am I gonna put loadsa weight back on! Surely you can't be allowed to eat!

After a little online search I found this article, which explains it slightly better.

This week was a weight gain, but from today I will do it proper promise ;-)

Girl Geek Dinners - Tech Journalism

Last night me and the boy went to a Girl Geek Dinners event. I've been to a few recently and really enjoy the discussions. I don't think of myself a geek as such, but I have a few gadgets and like to know about tech things, so I dunno really!

This talk was held at the headquarters of ThoughtWorks in the Soho.
First up was Angela Saini is an independent journalist based in London, who spoke about a career in Journalism in general and mainly spoke about ethics. I wasn't too sure I agreed with her, but she did have a few interesting points to make.

Next was Connie St Louis, who is the Director of the Science Journalism MA at City University. She's been in the industry a few years and knows her stuff, she was a good speaker, who made the course sound like something worth pursuing if you wanted a career in Technology Journalism. The course has a very high employment rate and students are assisted in gaining employment. Impressive.

Lastly and the most interesting was Ramaa Sharma is a Senior Multi Media Journalism Trainer at the BBC College of Journalism. She emphasised the importance of being multi skilled, with the ability to shoot edit and upload your material. She also showed us a selection of video cameras the course uses and showed as a few microphone, tripod which are light and cheap for your work.

As the BBC are having their funding reduced, it makes sense to become multi skilled, this is a parallel in the publishing industry too. As a picture researcher I am also expected to contribute the website, and have to source, edit and upload image galleries onto the work website. This goes along side my normal print/publishing picture research.

I'm Back!!!

Apologies, for not posting earlier. Since Junathon ended I'm not sure what direction to take the blogging. I still haven't decided, but seeing as a few exiting things have happened since I last posted, I thought as update was in order.

I have finally got my Weight Watchers 10% key chain, which was my mini mission. I've decided I need to loose around 10lbs to reach my goal weight. That still leaves me in the overweight BMI category, but I think I would look rubbish skinny!

I've started running again too. I've managed to run for a full 30minutes the other day, which according to my Nike+ was 5k but I'm not sure if that was right, because the treadmill said 4.5k. Spinning is my new thing. I've been to 1 session and I really liked it and will be going again next week. My thighs are aching, but I like the I've done loadsa exercise pain.

A few months ago, I was looking at courses on the Open University website and found a few courses I was interested in. I thought I should look at the short courses as I've not done any type of studying for a long time and it might be a shock to the system. I opted for the Understanding Human Nutrition course as I think I will get the most out of it. The course starts in 1st September and I will probably do the longer version and hand in my course work in January 2011.

9 Days is Too Long!

I've been meaning to blog for a couple of days, but I was enjoying the sun and not doing any exercise! It's not because I've been lazy, it's due to the medical advise. Well really my Osteopath, who said I should not run for a least a week. I made it to 8 days, so I reckon that's a good effort not to run. Yesterday I got a mini weigh in fear and had to do some exercise.

I've had a boozy week. Monday I was invited to a Press Launch on boat. It was such a nice day and with free drinks and a 3 course dinner, how could I refuse. It was for the Discovery Channel's Autumn preview. I got a phone call from the Picture Editor, asking if I wanted to join them, as they had a cancellation. I was more than happy to go along!

Thursday was my try out the back at the gym day. I was a little worried, as I have struggled with various aches in realtion to the pain, but I was determined to test it out. I can't not visit the gym, it's part of my weekly routine! I got on quite well. Managed 20 minutes on the Cross Trainer, 10 minutes walking briskly and 5 minute gently run. It did start to feel a little achy afterwards, but I'm glad I tired it out.

I was really in 2 minds this morning. I didn't want to go to the gym, but I knew with the lack of exercise and extra portion of pasta last night I needed to make an effort!!

I stayed the same weight this week, which in itself is impressive. AND it still means I have 0.5lb to loose before I get my keychain. I think you would be right in saying I'm a bit lame at this weight loss rubbish! Anyway. It's the sunniest day of the year so far, so yay for drinking rose at lunch!

Juneathon, DONE!

I don't like that this is my last blog for Juneathon. I'm already thinking about next year! Slightly sad that I didn't run the whole 30 days but I did manage 22, which I'm really proud of.

Today I swam, I noticed that I'm getting better. 10 minutes after work isn't easy as I was hot and achy. The back is improving every day, so as the Osteopath has told me to avoid the gym for a week. I'm going to take a few days rest! Actually I'll probably go swimming on Friday morning, as it's weigh day.

As I few Juneathoners have mentioned their weights, I will too! As I'm following Weight Watchers too, I should have lost something. I've lost nothing! Exactly the same weight as I started. Interesting and annoying. I think my eating what I like at the weekends is the reason.

I've been avoiding the total stats information, as I really don't like numbers and having to total create a decent set of understandable stats something I can do easily.

As I've done more then 1 activity on some days I just counted the running or the main activity.

Here are my 30 days of stats.
22 Days - Running
5 Days - Swimming
2 Days - Pilates
1 Day - Walking

TOTAL KM: 56.86 km

I'll miss reading everyone's blogs, but seeing as I've also learnt to use blogger and google reader I will still be able see what you're all up to.

Only One Day Left

Slightly exhausted after a fun weekend celebrating my birthday, I wanted a lie in.

This is my conversation with Chris morning:
C: You going gym?
D: No
C: When you going gym?
D: Never!
C: Idiot, you've only got 2 days left.

So I guess I'm going gym. After 28 days of Juneathon and a back that doesn't like running, I had to do the last 2 days. Sometimes the boy is right. As swimming is the only thing I can manage and paying to go to the Leisure Centre isn't really a good idea at £4.85 a go. I had to use Market Sports.

First I had to see the Osteopath and get my back worked on again. He cracked and manipulated the poorly bits. Then I waddled off to work.

I went to the Market Sports after work and went swimming. It was busy and I didn't want to undo the Osteopath's work by pushing myself too hard. I did 10 minutes.

Happy Birthday Me

As it's my birthday (did I mention that yet) I've taken the day off work. I wanted to spend the day away from London, so we decided on Whitstable in Kent.

After the drinking session in the pub yesterday, I honestly thought I would end up with a massive hangover. Instead I was up at 6am wanting to open my cards and pressies. I'm really lucky and got some lovely things, including the iPad (from Chris) which I'm using now to type this. Chris and I always sit in front of the telly with our computer devices, now I have my own.

Juneathon today was a 4 mile walk from Whitstable to Herne Bay it's called the Saxon Sea Way. It took us just over an hour. The gps thingy on Chris' phone stopped recording after 40 minutes, so I don't have proper stats, just old fashioned wrist watch and my memory of a google search telling me it was 4 miles.

It was a lovely walk along the coast, but the heat way horrid. We spend a lot of time discussing why we thought it was a good idea. I blame Juneathon.

The journey back home was interesting. A few crazy characters made me feel happy I don't like in Kent. (sorry iliketocount and jogblog)

Sunday Lunch in the Pub

It's my birthday tomorrow (sorry another mention), so I've organised a Sunday lunch at The Waterpoet. Only there is a certain World Cup game on too. England v Germany. I've had to change my booking to 1pm as the pub is not going to be serving food during the game.

I made Chris come with me to the leisure centre, so we could both go swimming. We've been meaning to go for a weekend swim for a long time.

I managed a full 20 minutes in a full sized pool , so I reckon I did well!

Anyway, have to get to the pub, so hopefully England will have a good result and ll will be right in the world (doubt it , but the football is taking over everything, this summer!

And I can I mentioned, I'm not jealous that I'm not at Glastonbury...

Today I Cleaned

My activities are going to be a little stretched for next few days. The back isn't very good, so I've stopped running. This time I mean it. Yesterdays running effort made the back ache more.

Seeing as I've not used cleaning as a Juneathon activity, I figured it wasn't a bad thing. I've not done any proper cleaning in June, so I think on day 26 it's more than required! Chris had already left the house to buy someone (ie ME) a birthday present. It took me 30 minutes to do the whole house. I live in a terraced 2 bed house, so I had stairs to do too! To make it a scientific effort I attached the pedometer to my dressing gown. It clocked 67 steps and 0.03miles. Brilliant! That's a rubbish set of stats. I had an appointment in Hampstead Heath, so I had to get ready to leave.

On the way home, I wondered through Stratford Shopping City. We have a great collection of cheapo shops like Poundland, 99p stores, Wilkinson and Poundstretcher. Next year is gonna be great. Westfield is opening!! yay!

Chris was cooking, when I got home. We have ratatouille for lunch and a Spanish tortilla for dinner. He also whipped up a meringue! That guy is a good, when he gets the energy!

I had a think about what my next activity would be. I have a few celeb exercise DVD's at home as well as the Lateral Thigh Trainer. I know they might be a bit much. I remembered that I had recently bought a Pilates book that came with a DVD. I did 30 minutes. It was quite hard, but luckily I knew the exercises. I don't think a person new to it would have been able to understand. Anyway it meant I have an activity completed for day 26.

Running again, just!

Weigh in day and an attempt to run is today's agenda.

I wanted to try out Slim Jim's Gym (catchy name) today, as it the other gym I can use with my menbership. I'm lucky that all 3 gyms are within my work area and Liverpool Street station. It's a 'city' gym, which is open 24hours Monday to Friday and it's closed at weekends.

I wondered down to the changing rooms, which are massive and have hair and make-up stations. I was so impressed I took a picture!

I've now drunk 2 large glasses of rose, so my blog is gonna be a little squiffy!

I started running and after 10 minutes, my back really started to hurt. I carried on for the full 15 and I'm now starting to wish I had finished. My back really hurts. I'm can't sit at my desk for long and even with a few glasses of wine, it still hurts. I have a birthday weekend, so I'm not going to think about it and drink until it stops hurting! (not really, but it makes me sound hardcore)

A Calm Juneathon Day

Since I've been struggling with the old back ( I gonna be 32 in 4 days!) today is a Pilates only day.

To increase my activity today I walked to Stratford which is a mammoth 0.7 miles and then walked to work from Liverpool Street Station via the Millennium Bridge. I passed a very long line outside the London Wall branch of o2. Crazy people wanting their iPhone on the first day. I don't understand why, but I do own alot of Apple products.

I had my lunch Pilates class today. I told my Mel about my back and she kept an eye on me throughout the class. It wasn't too bad and I managed to do all the exercises. It's always rubbish going back to work after Pilates, I always want to have a siesta!

Chris met me after work and we both walked to Liverpool Street. The route we walk totals 1.7 miles.

It's gonna be a hot night, so I hope the crazy rasta across the road doesn't spend all night shouting and drinking his can of red stripe! I called the nuisance neighbours line last night, they said he is know to them and that they will follow up my complaint. Result!

Football Crazy Football Mad

Todays Activity was swimming. My back is too painful, for me to go running. I don't want to be left with bad back, so I think it's best to stick to swimming. I like swimming and I've not been able to swim for long until recently, my fitness has improved immensely because I've been running

It's a lovely morning and we walked to Stratford to get the train. I headed left to the gym and Chris went right towards Southwark. I like the mornings, when we can chat and catch up.

The pool wasn't too busy and I shared the lane with 2 other people. I managed 20 minutes and 21 lengths of the pool. I felt sweaty and hot, so I knew I had done enough.

Because of the England V Slovenia game being at 3pm UK time. We were told we could watch the game, if our work was done. Everyone was exited and a few people had brought in wine to drink while watching the game. It was like the last day of school, nobody was doing any work.

This is my office during the final minutes of the game.

I had my appointment with the Osteopath, straight after the game so I hobbled off down the road to London Bridge. My Osteopath, Robin Kirk is good. I explained the hurty back and he went to work. He's brilliant. I think I counted 6 places, where he cracked by back! It felt good straight away. He told me I may need to go back, but I should see how it get on.

When I got home, Chris was in the garden putting the clothes on the line. I had a look at the veg we have growing and noticed the berries along the back. They've grown loads. I picked a load and ate a few, delicious!

I'm a Mayor

The back is still not good, so today is the last time I run. I have an appointment to see the osteopath tomorrow, so I'll be swimming for the rest of Juneathon. I don't want to give up now. I've done 3 weeks! My gym still has cold water and no air conditioning, so going to another gym will be nicer.

This mornings foursquare checkin meant I am now the Mayor of Bankside Heath Club hurrah! According to the stats, it only took 12 checkins. If I'd have know that I would have been mayor ages ago!

The run today wasn't bad and my back didn't hurt while I ran, but sitting down at my desk has made the pain come back. :-(

I have a pile of washing to sort out tonight, so I thought I would get my post done this morning. Now for my morning cuppa.

Hurty Back

Since yesterday morning my back has been giving me a bit of trouble. I did run on it yesterday and It wasn't too bad. After the long drive it went back to hurting again. I wasn't sure if I would be able to do today's run. I decided to wait until the evening to see how it felt.

It felt better than yesterday morning and I didn't struggle to get my trainers on either. Chris was working late, so it was the perfect time to go for a run. I didn't want to push it too far so I kept an even pace. The park was quite busy, as it was sunnier than last Monday. Lots more people to try and dodge. There were a lots of pairs, who took up most of the path. A few times, it was a test to see who would move for whom. I won 3 out of the 4 encounters, purely because I was running and they were walking.

I'm a bit disappointed that I'm not able to run for longer than 15 minutes in the park. Now that, I've have been in the park a few more time, I'm getting more confident. Juneathon has been brilliant for me.

While I showered, Chris made Aubergine Wraps for dinner. They were really good. We saw the recipe on telly a few weeks ago. He's not a bad little cook.

Today I Ran and Mowed the Lawn

This morning my mum just asked if I was going to go running and then asked me what I wanted for breakfast. Maybe they think running is a phase. I didn't explain Juneathon, as I would then have to explain blogging. My parents are great with the Internet and eBay, so they would have understood. I was just being lazy. My dad was amazed with my Nike+.

The sky was looking grey and it looked quite windy, but I quite like the run in the cool weather yesterday, so I was looking forward to the run. I set my Nike+ to run 15 minutes as I wanted to see, if outside running with a time goal would make me run differently. I started from the other path and soon realised that I missed a grassy path yesterday. It took me through the long glassy bit where the horses were grazing. I enjoyed seeing new parts of a park I have not visited in over 10 years. I did full circuit of the park and a bit more, so I could do my full 15 minutes.

As it was Fathers Day I offered to mow the lawn. My parents garden isn't very big, so I knew it wasn't going to take long. It took 30 minutes to do the whole lawn. I wasn't allowed to use the streamer, as it was my dad's new toy. It's petrol powered and loud! I got to have a break, while he did the edges and then I tidied up. Sweeping is a hard job! I reckon I must have earned my self at least 2 WW points!

Sleepy Aryan

Appleton Park Run

This weekend I'm visiting my parents in Leicester. I wasn't sure how I would get my run in, but I figured it would be easier to do it in the morning, so I could spend the rest of the day playing with my nephew Aryan.
The park near my parents house is called Appleton Park. I remember it being 'created' as a park when I was younger. I learnt to ride a bike in the same park.

When I mentioned to my parents I wanted to go for a run, they just looked at me. They didn't get it. Exercise in my family, isn't something that occurs to them. I've tried over the years to get them to move more, but they don't get it!

The park is not used very much and hasn't had much good press. My mum wanted to come with me. I convinced her, to stay at home.
I didn't know what the park was like for paths, so I just followed on which lead to a dead end, so I went back and took another path, that was also dead end. This path came to a overgrown field with 4 horses in it. Tomorrow, I'll take my phone, so I can take a picture of the horses. I decided to run along the edge in a small circuit. I did that twice. The run was over! Hurrah.
Tomorrow, I'm going to run to the park and then to my brothers house. Aryan looks like he's going to wake up, so I better finish. Too Late, his awake. He's on my lap as I finish

It's Football Friday

I have another busy weekend planned, so this is going to be a quick post.

Today's was a shorter one, my muscles are starting to ache all the time. I woke up feeling like I'd had no sleep I hate that. I had a cheeky weigh in at home and knew I had put on some weight this week, so I was dreading Weight Watchers.

After 2 days not not being able to use my iPod, I made sure the thing had power and that I would be able to use my Nike+ stats. I think the technology is making me more obsessed. Now I have nikey levels to make me/keep me motivated.

Another false start with the new legging meant I had to hoik them up a few times or they would have ended at my ankles. I must have look ridiculous. Eventually my sweaty body kept them up and I didn't need to hold them up.

I manage a respectful 2.2 km. Couldn't be arsed to go swimming, so I spent the extra time straightening my hair.

As I suspected a little gain on the scales today. 1.5lbs which is rubbish, but my leader was really lovely and said the extra exercise I'm doing will take a while to catch up with my body. I told her my shape and changed and that I didn't feel heavier. She said the scales aren't always right and that I should stick with it. Interesting, but that still means I should hand over my cash! Might stop going before our holiday in the Lakes. Although I do still want the keychain, so maybe I'll stop once I get that. I need to loose 4lbs for that. I'm an idiot!

Run Deepa Run

I've not done a long run this week and with weigh day being tomorrow, I have to use Market Sports and I will probably swim tomorrow. Which reminds me I have to refill my shampoo and conditioner bottles.

I made a little detour to the gym to see if I could spot the fat cat of Southwark. I wanted to take his picture, to prove that he's a big fella! I was too late I woman had already spotted him and was stroking him. I'll try again next week. I will take his picture by the end of Juneathon.

Having enough clean running gear is getting to be a challenge too. I bought a new pair of size 12 leggings. I've never bought a size 12 in my life! Then again, I bought a smaller size on purpose.

I started off well, but had to pause to pull the leggings up. They weren't too big, just needed adjusting. The iPod had already died on me, so I plugged into the telly. I started on level 8 and after 10 minutes, moved to 9. After 20 minutes, I moved it 9.5 for the last bit. I did start clock watching for the last 5 minutes, I was finding it hard to keep going. I was already sweating buckets and aching, but I had to keep going. It was such a good run, I really liked that I beat my 4k time again!

I was really glad I had Pilates at lunch time. It's one of my favourite exercise activities. My teacher is good cos and makes sure you're doing the exercises correctly. From the ones we did today, I'm sure it's gonna hurt tomorrow!

Another Day Another Run

I'm bash the blog out this morning, so I can enjoy the evening watching crap telly. Chris going to a a geek drinks thing, so I have the telly to myself!

It is press day and I should have started working, but I start at 10 and I still have 12minutes...

I bought a new t-shirt from the Nike Outlet in Salford at the weekend. I made Chris take a picture of me this morning, cos I like that it says Run Run Run. Simple thing init!

I'd forgotten my waterbottle, so decided to get the one from my desk. I put my lunch in the fridge and headed to the gym. Once I go into the changing rooms I realised that I'd left my iPod on my desk, too late to go back upstairs and I was gonna have to go for it with out any sound or Nike+ stats. Oh well.

I manged a decent 20 minutes and upped the level for the second 10. The gym is being rubbish recently and the showers have been cold. Today was a cold shower morning. I don't mind it once in a while, but once a week is rubbish. It's hot in the changing rooms and trying to put on make-up while still sweating it not easy!

Halfway Through Juneathon

So I made it to the halfway way mark. I wasn't sure I would get this far and I'm really pleased with myself.

To be honest I muscles were feeling a little achy, so I didn't really want to run today. I decided on swimming, as it's good exercise and less strain on my achy muscles.

My gym has a little pool at 25m. It's sectioned off in 3 lanes slow, medium and fast. It was busy and I started counting, but soon forgot. I think it was around 15-16. I spent around 20 minutes in the pool varying between breaststroke and front crawl. I was feeling tired, so I knew I wasn't putting as much energy as I did on Fridays swim.

I wanted to post this blog earlier, as I knew it was going to be short. I logged into my computer at work and realised the internet was really really slow. The internal email was working, but nothing else. I'm a Picture Researcher for What's on TV magazine (nice plug) and everything I need is online or requested via email. No electronic communication, is rubbish. As soon as it was lunch I decided to go for a quick 20minute walk, it not like I could do any work. Everything started working eventually, but I'd already started doing paperwork and quite liked having no distractions like twitter, email and facebook.

I ran in the Park

After the busy weekend, I thought a calmer to start the day would be nicer. I wanted to do another run in the park, so I decided I would run tonight.

I made a light dinner of Salmon with a Cous Cous salad. I had booked a Tesco delivery between 7-9pm. I left Chris to wait for it, as I was worried it would start raining. It was already dark and overcast. Armed with my Audio Fuel and my Nike+ I was ready. I love gadgets!

I knew a lap about the edge of the park was 2km, so I followed the paths. Running in the park is good, cos you get to people watch! I passed a few couples wearing new trainers on power walks. I crossed the path of one woman twice (she was running the other way). There were the usual park drinkers on benches, dog walkers and even a police officer and community support officer on patrol. West Ham park is quite nice.

While running I did have a few flashbacks of cross country running at school. I was a large teenager and hated all forms of exercise. I'm so glad I've grown up to actually enjoy it!

Spa Morning and a Visit to Leicester

This morning I went straight to the hotel gym. I'd booked a back massage for 9.30am and knew I needed to get the running done, so I didn't undo the nice work. This time I had to use the broken treadmill, which didn't let me change the level. I had to run on level 8.9 the whole time. My Nike+ worked all the way through and I have proper stats.

The therapist lead me to the relaxation room, to sit before my appointment. It big sofas, relaxing music and a water fountain. I necked loads of water, cos I was thirsty and hot from the run. She chose a massage oil good for exercised muscles and worked her magic. Lovely

Before we drove back to London, we went to visit my parents in Leicester. Actually it was to eat a home made dinner and to visit my nephew Aryan. He's nearly 4 months and I try and see him when I get chance.

Spicy Hot Poached Beancurd

A hangover isn't the best way to start the day. The hot night and the small amount of wine last night are clearly to blame.

To celebrate our 5 years since we met anniversary, I decided that Chris and I should spend the weekend in one of our favourite cities, Manchester. The last time we stayed in a hotel, that had a good spa and gym, called the Macdonald. There is an ulterior motive...

We finally left the London via the recycling centre in Leyton. We had a few wine bottles, that needed to be thrown out. The drive wasn't too bad, we made it in just over 4 hours. With a 30 minute stop at the services.

Once we made it to the hotel, I headed straight to the gym. I still had to get my Nike+ working! I liked having a mini mission. It keeps me motivated. The treadmill was quite impressive, it had a touch screen with integrated TV. The iPod Touch was a better choice, as it's bigger screen is easier to use, while you're running. The notes app, is also good to make a note of the treadmills stats.

We still had time to wonder the city before the England V USA game started. We headed to out favourite restaurant, Red Chilli in Chinatown, they do massive portions and they do an amazing chili filled bean curd dish (top i bowl) I didn't think the three chili icons meant that it was that hot! It blows your head off.

We waddled back to the hotel to watch the rest of the game in the bar. The Weatherspoons and bars around Piccadilly were full and neither one of us wanted to join the scary drunks. We ordered our drinks and sat next to a group of people, once we sat down we realised they were American! We didn't talk they were too engrossed in the soccer.

Red Wine Friday

I have a mission. I want to get my Nike+ working. Last night when I couldn't get it to work, I made Chris help me and he did it straight away. Now that the things are linked all I had to do was test it out.

I went straight to the treadmills to test out the Nike+, it still wasn't working. I gave up and carried on running. From now on I'm going to use the iPod Touch instead. It has the software already installed and isn't struggling to keep up the connection. Once I did the 15minutes running I headed to the pool. I've not swam for a few weeks. This morning I was quicker and wasn't out of breath so much. I managed 15 minutes, which is better that what I used to be able to do. It was really surprising to see that I wasn't out of breath. Before I started running I found it really hard to do 5 minutes. It's great to see the benefits of the extra exercise I've been doing.

Now it was time to head to Weight Watchers. The leader immediately greeted me with 'great the rain didn't stop you'. On the scales I went, I'd lost 1lb! Yay, but I still need to loose another pound to get my keychain. :-(

With my weekly progress I treated myself to a glass of red wine at lunch. I'm drinking one now too. I'm not a saint, just enjoying Juneathon!

Evening Gym Run

I really didn't fancy another morning or rushing around the house, running up and down the stairs and dashing out the door to get the train.

This morning was a leisurely get out of bed and get ready, it was nice showering at home! My journey was fine until, the train decided to go slow, and then wait outside the station, due to congestion. Then I got the bus, as I'd been to a few shops and was running out of time. That was a mistake, but I'd made the decision and once you make a London Transport decision, you have to stick with it! The traffic was bad, I had to get off at St Paul's. So I ended up walking anyway.

I had lunch pilates, so I knew I would get my activity in, but I wasn't going to let that stop me from running and besides I had my Nike+ to calibrate. Pilates was just what I needed, the stretching and core exercises are brilliant.

After work I headed of to the gym downstairs. I was about the thread through the Nike+ sensor pouch to my lases and I made a great discovery. My trainers already have the slot for the sensor! I honestly didn't know. I'd bought the trainers in a Outlet shop in Salford, cos they were cheap! I'm going back on Saturday to stock up on more running gear. I had everything ready, but couldn't get the sensor the work. Damn. I ran anyway, the distraction was good. I was thinking about what was wrong and not the running.

Tomorrow morning is weigh day. I really hope I've lost something! If I lose 2lbs I will get my 10% key chain.

I have a new Gadget

I've not been able blog from work today. Wednesday is press day and in the world of TV listings magazines, once the schedules lock and the magazine gets printed.

An empty gym this morning. Very strange. I got to pick the treadmill I like, the one where you can't see in the mirror. I don't like seeing myself sweating and looking bright red.

I went straight to level 9. This morning I used the Jubilee line and didn't have the 30 minute walk, which gets me all hot and sweaty, even before I've made it into the gym. I decided I was going to run 2k and use the rowing machine for 15 minutes, which would make my cardio workout 30 minutes. I'm not a big fan of the rower, I don't really enjoy it. 15 minutes, is the most I've use it, but I don't think I got much out of it. I'm going to try the rower first next time.

Before I started Juneathon, I thought about getting the Nike+ Running gadget. I'm massive gadget fiend and want anything that's new. I'm also a Mac not PC! So the a gadget, that works perfectly with my iPod Nano (bought in 2005), is great. I ordered the Nikey thing using my nectar points, so all that swiping at Sainsburys paid off! It was delivered this morning, so I'm well exited about seeing my stats tomorrow. I'm gonna go, cos I need to read the maunal before tomorrows run!

4k Tuesday

I'm wearing my Weight Watchers pedometer today. No reason, just felt like it. I just took the picture to show how many steps I'd walked so far. (13.45pm)I think you're supposed to to 10k.

Anyway, back to Juneathon. Today I was determined to have a proper run. I've been tired and have done little runs. I had my Audio Fuel and I was ready. The gym was packed and I ended up with a treadmill without a telly. I quite like breakfast TV without the sound.

I started well and kept my pace consistent. By the 20 minutes, I was actually enjoying it. I managed my best run yet. I think I'm gonna do little runs during the week and a 4k one every Tuesday. That way I can see it I beat my previous time.

Severe Delays Monday

Does running up and down the stairs in the morning count in Juneathon? I could make it an olympic sport the way I have to keep going up and down! As soon as I woke up I knew it was gonna be one of those mornings. I wanted to go swimming this morning, just so I have a few varied activities during the month.

I heard on the radio, that there are severe delays on the National Express line I use to get to Liverpool St. By this time I'd already got changed, with my cossie under my clothes and had to quickly pack gym items, so I had a back up. I have been caught before and have ended up going to the gym just to shower, because of the train delays. I wasn't going to let that happen.

One thing that did make me smile this morning was spotting the Fat Cat of Southwark this morning on Burrell Street, SE1. He/she really is big boy.

So back I went on the running machine. From my weekends running in the park I noticed that I was running slower on the running machine. I think that may be why I was finding it more difficult. Seeing your route and the end makes you run faster I'm sure of it!

Another day of Juneathon over! I've just realised I've made it to one week. Yay for me!

Lazy Sunday

Today has been the most difficult morning to try and motivate myself to think of an activity. Last night we had a lovely evening with friends, which involved drinking and eating. The perfect evening!

It got to 5pm and I knew I had to get my kit on and head to the park. Originally, we decided to take the bikes to the Greenway and have a look at the Olympic site's progress. We were being lazy and neither one of us mentioned a time. Chris had to repair the brakes on his so once he did that I decided I'd rather go running. I'm not a confident cyclist and I wasn't feeling very happy about taking the bike out. By the end of Juneathon I will try to cycle somewhere, even if it is to Morrisions.

I had my Audio Fuel on and Chris cycled to the park with me, to make sure I didn't get lost on the way. He needed to test the brakes out too. We looked the map of the park and there was a 2km running path already measure out and Chris cycled in front of me, so I could follow him use the right path. He handed me his phone, so I could GPS the time and route. I'm so glad I made the decision to run in the evening. It was still warm and I wasn't enjoying running outside.

Yesterday I thought the heat was the reason I wasn't able to run much, but I think I my lack of running outside is the real reason. I'm determined to get better, so I'm going to try running in the park at the weekends. Here is my google map of the route in the park.

I'm going to try to aim and do a parkrun in Finsbury Park one weekend, so I have a little target to work towards.

Sunny Saturday Morning Run

This morning, we decided that I would run in the local park and Chris would go swimming, because the local pool was near the park Chris, could walk me there. I've not lived in Stratford that long and I wasn't sure where the park was. I wanted to try running outside and I'm not very confident to walk around outside in my running gear on my own. Just before we headed out, Chris decided he wanted to run with me. He as a achy ankle, so wanted to test it out.

We walked in a fast pace to West Ham Park to warm up. I was already feeling the morning heat. It's gonna be a scorcher today! Chris handed me his Android phone, which has a GPS running app and we were off. Chris is not much of a runner, but is still faster than me. I told him to carry on and I would follow his route. I didn't start off fast, but I already felt out of my comfort zone of the gym. Chris noticed a running track at the park and headed over to the grass. I was starting to really feel the heat, the track didn't have any shady areas either. I managed 2 laps and indicated to Chris I wanted to stop. He had done an extra lap, but we were both happy with our first little run together and headed home.

We're heading to the westend, this afternoon to spot more elephants, which are part of the Elephant Parade. I have already managed to photograph 60 and have been saving the big cluster near Carnaby Street. I'll get Chris to GPS the walk, so I can add my stats later. I may even start to add pictures to my blog...

Gym Rat and Half a Pound

So I did make it to the gym on day 4. Another late night and early start. I really wasn't sure what type of 'activity' I wanted to do cos, honestly I wanted to stay at home and do nothing. I knew I couldn't avoid weigh day and I knew I was going out in the evening. The solution was do the exercise in the morning. I ruled out swimming, cos I didn't want to wash my hair. Running it is then!

I used the gym near Liverpool Street Station, so I can make it to Weight Watchers, which was also nearby. Being the girlfriend of a geek, I'm also part of a another type of social networking called foursquare. The basic explanation is that you 'check in' to venues, such as bars, theatres even gyms. Mainly to share with your friend your location, so you can meet up. Don't ask. I don't know either, I just joined because Chris read about it on a geek site. Anyway, I've been checking into the gyms every morning for a few weeks. This morning I 'unlocked' the Gym Rat badge. You also collect 'badges'. I can't explain it, it already sounds ridiculous!

Audio Fuel switched on and I'm ready to go. I managed a respectable 20minutes and I was happy. I've not used level 9 for a full run before, so another first for me.

This morning was a really hot one and I headed to the dreaded scales. I wasn't sure how the bank holiday, the Eurovision party and 4 days consecutive mornings of exercise were going to look on the scales, but I knew it wasn't going to be lots. I've noticed I've been hungry more than usual, but then again I like eating, so I had to choose my snacks wisely.

Amazingly lost 0.5lbs. I know it doesn't sound like much, but all losses are great and I'm just glad it's going in the right direction.

It's a late post today. I was at a leaving drinks for a colleague. Gok Wan was also there, he's a friend of the person leaving! I was impressed, as he's from Leicester.

A Smaller Run and Pilates

Getting up this morning was hard as I was at Electric Hotel, an outdoor dance performance, which started at 9.45pm. I had to be organised and packed my PE kit before I went out.

Chris started the gps thingy on his phone, so I could calculate my route. We walked to my gym, via the Millienium Bridge. It's a nice route to take, in the morning sun. I was struggling in the heat, as I was carrying my rucksack and handbag. I'd already decided to run less this morning. Thursdays is Pilates Day, so I try not to exhaust myself in the morning.

Today I started my run listening to the One Five Five, Audio Fuel. I set the running machine on 5k, as I wasn't sure how long or far I wanted to run for. I quite like looking at the timer and getting the number to round off nicely. I started by thinking burning 100 calories would be a good target to aim for. Once I'd reached that I noticed I'd already run just under 2k. I decided to carry on going and aim for 16 minutes. Not bad, I felt satisfied and after my stretches I decided to use the free weight machines, so my time spent in the gym totalled more than just my running time.

I'm lucky as I work for a company, who likes to promote wellbeing. Every Thursday at lunch I attend Pilates. I've been going for over a year and have progressed to the intermediate class. My teacher Melanie Noble is great and I enjoy every class. Only problem is going back to work.

I'm going to start adding my Weight Watchers activity points to my stats. The first 3 days have been quite easy to do, as I was already planning to go to the gym 3 times this week. Friday Morning is weigh day, so I don't normally visit the gym. I still have time to think about what I do. Maybe I'll go swimming before Weight Watchers or get a walk in after work. Guess you'll find out in tomorrow's blog ;-)

Audio Fuel is amazing! Juneathon

After an intense evening trying to sort out my basic blog page (which I will probably change every few days until I'm happy) I've decided to try a few different tactic at the gym. Mainly so I don't get bored.

After reading all the posts on Juneathon's Facebook page I found Audio Fuel a company, that puts together music to the right BPM. The technical info is on their website. I downloaded the free sample and the One Five Five.

The morning started as it does most mornings, a 30 minute walk to the gym from Liverpool Street. Chris walks with me as he works in SE1 too. He's one of the main reasons I am able to get out the house to go to the gym. He starts work at 9am and I can get to the gym with enough time for a workout, if I leave with him.

I decided that I don't have to run long distances every day just enough I get me moving and the blood pumping. I'd set the runing machine to manual, just so I didn't have to commit to any time or distance I thought I would see how the 15 min free sample would work. It was a really great run. I enjoyed the Audio Fuel and wasn't even watching the time counter. Will try the One Five Five tomorrow. As I had done a shorter run today. I thought I would do weights, I worked on more reps instead of more weight.

Well thats Day 2 of Juneathon completed.

Todays run ends with an entry to Juneathon 2010

June 1st usually means 28 days till my birthday. This year June is gonna be a whole new experience. Adele Prince a blogger, a runner and artist has been blogging about her Juneathon for the last few years. I've been a little envious of her blogging and decided to start a blog about my current thing eating and exercise.

Blogging is new to me and I have tried to think about what should blog about.
My recent Weight Watchers membership has been the only thing I've been thinking about for the last 15 weeks. My boyfriend one day joked that I always have Calorific Dreams, hence the choice of blog title. I've also been visiting a gym 3-4 times a times a week. I hit a plateau for 4 weeks and was ready to give up. My leader suggest that I stop using weights as this might be the reason, I wasn't shifting the pounds. That was a little shock to me and I thought varying my exercise would give me the weight loss I wanted. So my new action plan was to start running.

This morning I decided a new tactic, music! I hadn't used my iPod at the gym, I just plugged into the audio system and watched Sian and Bill on BBC Breakfast. After failing to make a playlist, I flicked through my iPod and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's was the band I picked. I'm a genius, Karen O's voice was just what I needed. At the end of my first run, I'd done my PB 4k in 31 minutes. I was so impressed I decide to share my joy on twitter. Adele instantly replied and suggested I enter Juneathon. I was a little apprehensive, but what did I have to loose? ...so Juneathon 2010 here I go... wish me luck!

Starting to blog

Blogging is about sharing the things you get up to? I don't think I have enough to talk about, but my current obsession is dieting and exercise. I've been part of a well know weight loss company for the last 5 years. I've tried Online, At Home and At Work! I have now gone back to the get weighed each week system. It works for me as I get the fear every week. Crazy as I'm paying for the privilege. I mean I could stop whenever I want, but I can't.
