I'm a Mayor

The back is still not good, so today is the last time I run. I have an appointment to see the osteopath tomorrow, so I'll be swimming for the rest of Juneathon. I don't want to give up now. I've done 3 weeks! My gym still has cold water and no air conditioning, so going to another gym will be nicer.

This mornings foursquare checkin meant I am now the Mayor of Bankside Heath Club hurrah! According to the stats, it only took 12 checkins. If I'd have know that I would have been mayor ages ago!

The run today wasn't bad and my back didn't hurt while I ran, but sitting down at my desk has made the pain come back. :-(

I have a pile of washing to sort out tonight, so I thought I would get my post done this morning. Now for my morning cuppa.

Appleton Park Run

This weekend I'm visiting my parents in Leicester. I wasn't sure how I would get my run in, but I figured it would be easier to do it in the morning, so I could spend the rest of the day playing with my nephew Aryan.
The park near my parents house is called Appleton Park. I remember it being 'created' as a park when I was younger. I learnt to ride a bike in the same park.

When I mentioned to my parents I wanted to go for a run, they just looked at me. They didn't get it. Exercise in my family, isn't something that occurs to them. I've tried over the years to get them to move more, but they don't get it!

The park is not used very much and hasn't had much good press. My mum wanted to come with me. I convinced her, to stay at home.
I didn't know what the park was like for paths, so I just followed on which lead to a dead end, so I went back and took another path, that was also dead end. This path came to a overgrown field with 4 horses in it. Tomorrow, I'll take my phone, so I can take a picture of the horses. I decided to run along the edge in a small circuit. I did that twice. The run was over! Hurrah.
Tomorrow, I'm going to run to the park and then to my brothers house. Aryan looks like he's going to wake up, so I better finish. Too Late, his awake. He's on my lap as I finish

I ran in the Park

After the busy weekend, I thought a calmer to start the day would be nicer. I wanted to do another run in the park, so I decided I would run tonight.

I made a light dinner of Salmon with a Cous Cous salad. I had booked a Tesco delivery between 7-9pm. I left Chris to wait for it, as I was worried it would start raining. It was already dark and overcast. Armed with my Audio Fuel and my Nike+ I was ready. I love gadgets!

I knew a lap about the edge of the park was 2km, so I followed the paths. Running in the park is good, cos you get to people watch! I passed a few couples wearing new trainers on power walks. I crossed the path of one woman twice (she was running the other way). There were the usual park drinkers on benches, dog walkers and even a police officer and community support officer on patrol. West Ham park is quite nice.

While running I did have a few flashbacks of cross country running at school. I was a large teenager and hated all forms of exercise. I'm so glad I've grown up to actually enjoy it!

Lazy Sunday

Today has been the most difficult morning to try and motivate myself to think of an activity. Last night we had a lovely evening with friends, which involved drinking and eating. The perfect evening!

It got to 5pm and I knew I had to get my kit on and head to the park. Originally, we decided to take the bikes to the Greenway and have a look at the Olympic site's progress. We were being lazy and neither one of us mentioned a time. Chris had to repair the brakes on his so once he did that I decided I'd rather go running. I'm not a confident cyclist and I wasn't feeling very happy about taking the bike out. By the end of Juneathon I will try to cycle somewhere, even if it is to Morrisions.

I had my Audio Fuel on and Chris cycled to the park with me, to make sure I didn't get lost on the way. He needed to test the brakes out too. We looked the map of the park and there was a 2km running path already measure out and Chris cycled in front of me, so I could follow him use the right path. He handed me his phone, so I could GPS the time and route. I'm so glad I made the decision to run in the evening. It was still warm and I wasn't enjoying running outside.

Yesterday I thought the heat was the reason I wasn't able to run much, but I think I my lack of running outside is the real reason. I'm determined to get better, so I'm going to try running in the park at the weekends. Here is my google map of the route in the park.

I'm going to try to aim and do a parkrun in Finsbury Park one weekend, so I have a little target to work towards.

Gym Rat and Half a Pound

So I did make it to the gym on day 4. Another late night and early start. I really wasn't sure what type of 'activity' I wanted to do cos, honestly I wanted to stay at home and do nothing. I knew I couldn't avoid weigh day and I knew I was going out in the evening. The solution was do the exercise in the morning. I ruled out swimming, cos I didn't want to wash my hair. Running it is then!

I used the gym near Liverpool Street Station, so I can make it to Weight Watchers, which was also nearby. Being the girlfriend of a geek, I'm also part of a another type of social networking called foursquare. The basic explanation is that you 'check in' to venues, such as bars, theatres even gyms. Mainly to share with your friend your location, so you can meet up. Don't ask. I don't know either, I just joined because Chris read about it on a geek site. Anyway, I've been checking into the gyms every morning for a few weeks. This morning I 'unlocked' the Gym Rat badge. You also collect 'badges'. I can't explain it, it already sounds ridiculous!

Audio Fuel switched on and I'm ready to go. I managed a respectable 20minutes and I was happy. I've not used level 9 for a full run before, so another first for me.

This morning was a really hot one and I headed to the dreaded scales. I wasn't sure how the bank holiday, the Eurovision party and 4 days consecutive mornings of exercise were going to look on the scales, but I knew it wasn't going to be lots. I've noticed I've been hungry more than usual, but then again I like eating, so I had to choose my snacks wisely.

Amazingly lost 0.5lbs. I know it doesn't sound like much, but all losses are great and I'm just glad it's going in the right direction.

It's a late post today. I was at a leaving drinks for a colleague. Gok Wan was also there, he's a friend of the person leaving! I was impressed, as he's from Leicester.

Audio Fuel is amazing! Juneathon

After an intense evening trying to sort out my basic blog page (which I will probably change every few days until I'm happy) I've decided to try a few different tactic at the gym. Mainly so I don't get bored.

After reading all the posts on Juneathon's Facebook page I found Audio Fuel a company, that puts together music to the right BPM. The technical info is on their website. I downloaded the free sample and the One Five Five.

The morning started as it does most mornings, a 30 minute walk to the gym from Liverpool Street. Chris walks with me as he works in SE1 too. He's one of the main reasons I am able to get out the house to go to the gym. He starts work at 9am and I can get to the gym with enough time for a workout, if I leave with him.

I decided that I don't have to run long distances every day just enough I get me moving and the blood pumping. I'd set the runing machine to manual, just so I didn't have to commit to any time or distance I thought I would see how the 15 min free sample would work. It was a really great run. I enjoyed the Audio Fuel and wasn't even watching the time counter. Will try the One Five Five tomorrow. As I had done a shorter run today. I thought I would do weights, I worked on more reps instead of more weight.

Well thats Day 2 of Juneathon completed.
